UC programs that can use Nevada

Nevada appears on no UC exclusion list, and UC attaches no state form, supplemental background check or PA allowance to it. What it does bring is a licensing hurdle and a board rule, both below. The national map is on where UC allows clinicals.

The Nevada board and programs based elsewhere

Nevada's rule for outside programs, NAC 632.703, has two parts. Any school running a piece of its program in the state files the board's report form, backed by accreditation or approval evidence, proof it follows Nevada's nursing statutes and regulations, and yearly school reports. And a school teaching online, or in another nontraditional format, needs the board's approval before offering clinical instruction in Nevada; its faculty teaching there need Nevada licenses.

Nothing in the rule separates pre-licensure from graduate programs. Still, the board's September 1, 2026 program list, which shows the outside schools cleared to run only their clinical portion in Nevada, contains nothing but pre-licensure ADN and BSN programs. UC's own pages count Nevada as open, so treat this as a question for constateauth@uc.edu early in your planning, not a reason to give up.

Your license and your preceptor's limits

Nevada holds no compact membership, so an Ohio multistate license doesn't reach it. A board practice decision ties licensure to where the patient is: caring for someone in Nevada takes a Nevada license, and the decision counts nursing education involving direct patient contact as that kind of care. Combined with UC's RN license rule, that means a Nevada RN license before your first shift.

A 2005 practice decision on precepted clinicals sets the working limits. Faculty direct every student clinical experience and stay reachable; one preceptor oversees two students at most and works on site; the school hands each preceptor an orientation plus written objectives. UC's preceptor requirements sit on top, and physician assistants are out, since Nevada isn't on UC's PA list.

Full practice, with one prescribing wrinkle

AANP's rating for Nevada is full practice. The catch: Schedule II prescribing waits until an NP logs two years or 2,000 clinical hours, unless a physician-approved protocol applies. UC accepts preceptors with one year in the role, so a newer Nevada NP can meet UC's bar while still under the Schedule II limit. UC's rules don't exclude that preceptor, but FNP and PMHNP students may see a narrower slice of prescribing.

Most clinicians work around Las Vegas and Henderson or in the Reno metro, with a smaller pool near Carson City. The Valley Health System, Renown Health, University Medical Center of Southern Nevada, Dignity Health's hospitals in Las Vegas and Henderson, and Sunrise Health System are large employers, listed to orient your search rather than as sites known to take UC students.
