NURS8020CUC's NURS8020C immersion and the track intensives
Starting in Spring 2027, every UC APRN student who takes NURS8020C Advanced Health Assessment spends three days on campus for skills check-offs and standardized-patient work. Nurse-midwifery, women's health NP and PMHNP certificate students also have intensives of their own. UC lists no clinical hours for NURS8020C, so the immersion sits beside your precepted hours, but its dates still shape your work and clinical calendar.

What changes in Spring 2027
NURS8020C is one of UC's shared APRN prerequisites, alongside NURS8022 pathophysiology, NURS8024 pharmacology and NURS8026 differential diagnosis, and it needs a B- or better. From Spring 2027 the course includes a three-day on-campus immersion for every APRN student enrolled in it. UC announced the change in May 2026 as part of lifting its standard for APRN education.
Some older UC pages haven't caught up. The online FNP curriculum page still describes a fully online program with no site visits, and the WHNP and PMHNP certificate curriculum pages also say 100% online. The Required Campus Visits page is the newer source, and it's the one to plan by.
Post-master's certificate students take NURS8020C only if a transcript review puts it on the plan. UC requires separate graduate courses in pathophysiology, health assessment and pharmacology; any that are missing are added to your plan of study, and the immersion comes with the course.
Immersion dates posted so far
UC has published four immersion windows. Each belongs to the term in which you take NURS8020C, so look at the dates before you register and ask for time off early. If you're still choosing a start term, count forward to the semester your plan of study puts NURS8020C in; that semester, not your start date, decides which window is yours.

The Spring 2028 window is listed as April 2–5, one day longer than the others. Confirm the exact days on the Required Campus Visits page closer to the time.
Set the first two windows against UC's 2026–27 calendar and both come late in their terms. Spring classes end April 23, so the April 12–14 visit lands in the final fortnight, and the July 26–28 window sits near the close of a summer session that runs May 10 to August 7. If you're also in a practicum that term, bank hours early rather than leaving them for the last weeks.
The immersion doesn't move any clinical deadline. If NURS8020C falls in the same term you're lining up a first practicum, the packet dates on UC packet deadlines still apply.
What the three days involve
Check-in runs from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Day 1, and the immersion finishes by 1:30 p.m. on Day 3. An optional pre-conference begins at 8 a.m. on Day 1 for students who arrive early. Sessions are held at Procter Hall.
UC describes three parts: a skills check-off, a standardized-patient experience with competency checks, and preparation for clinical requirements. The last part links the course to your clinicals, but it doesn't replace anything you owe UC: Critical Requirements, the Preceptor Application and the week-2 site rule all stand.
The Required Campus Visits page gives no travel or lodging details, so plan and budget for both yourself. If you work shifts, the Day 1 afternoon start and Day 3 early finish may let you travel on those days rather than adding nights.
Nurse-midwifery and WHNP skills intensives
Midwifery students meet two Clinical Skills Intensives. CSI 1 takes a single day, online, as the ANW8006 term opens. CSI 2 brings them to campus for two days at the start of the ANW8062 term for hands-on birth and gynecologic practice, simulated shoulder dystocia and postpartum hemorrhage among the scenarios. The program page also lists 42 lab hours and a skills intensive site visit.
The WHNP has CSI 1 and nothing more: the same online day at the opening of ANW8006, with no second intensive. Both tracks also attend the NURS8020C immersion from Spring 2027.
Because CSI 2 falls in week 1 of ANW8062, let your intrapartum preceptor know you'll be on campus that week. The practicum sequences are on UC nurse-midwifery clinicals and UC WHNP practicums.
The PMHNP certificate's virtual intensive
Post-master's PMHNP certificate students attend a mandatory two-day intensive in their first semester. UC streams it live, so you join remotely, and it normally lands midweek in the sixth week of term, a Wednesday plus the Thursday after. There's no travel, but it still takes two full weekdays, so block them with your employer and with any preceptor you're working with that term. If a date clashes with something you can't move, raise it with your advisor as soon as you see the conflict.

If the certificate plan also adds NURS8020C, that immersion is on campus and separate from this one. The PMHNP internship order, psychotherapy preceptors first, is on UC PMHNP internships.
Other campus time: AGACNP labs and the DNP defense
The adult-gerontology acute care NP is hybrid by design. Students come to campus weekly for one semester of health assessment and weekly for two semesters of hands-on labs at Procter Hall. UC's program page lists suturing, airway work, ultrasound-guided lines, lumbar puncture, the FAST exam, cricothyrotomy, chest tubes and pericardiocentesis. Its clinical requirements also offer an optional one-month SICU rotation; see UC AGACNP practicums.
The DNP adds one more possible trip at the very end, for the project defense, though two UC FAQs disagree about whether students far from Cincinnati can defend online. That question, and the post-MSN DNP's first-fall orientation, belong to the DNP project practicum.
Questions UC students ask
Is UC's online FNP program still 100% online?
Coursework is online, but clinicals are in person, and from Spring 2027 NURS8020C includes three days on campus. The FNP curriculum page still says 100% online with no site visits. UC's Required Campus Visits page and the FNP program page are newer and both include the immersion, so plan by those.
Does the NURS8020C immersion count toward clinical hours?
UC lists no clinical hours for NURS8020C in its major maps or clinical requirement documents. Your precepted hours come from the practicum courses and are logged in eMedley within semester dates, so treat the immersion as course time and keep your practicum hour plan as it is.
Do post-master's certificate students attend the immersion?
Only if NURS8020C is on your plan of study. UC reviews each certificate applicant's transcript for separate graduate courses in pathophysiology, health assessment and pharmacology, and adds any that are missing. If health assessment is added, the immersion is part of it. Neonatal NP students take a newborn and infant assessment course instead.
Is the PMHNP intensive held on campus?
No. The PMHNP certificate intensive is a mandatory two-day livestream in your first semester, generally midweek in week 6. It is separate from the NURS8020C immersion, which is on campus for any student whose plan includes that course from Spring 2027.
